7 Media Companies Too Stupid To Snag Their YouTube Name

Friday August 7, 2009 10:35 AM

In this fast paced world, corporations act swiftly to protect their brand name. Except when they don’t. When that happens, they lose their precious brand identity to what the kids call a “name-waster,” and find themselves on this list of 7 Media Companies Too Stupid To Snag Their YouTube Name.

7. Disney

Disney2

The largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world lost their name to some douche that joined in 2005 and watched a grand total of one video. Of course, the channel comments sound like they were written with the random YouTube insult generator.

Myspace3
6. MySpace
Remember MySpace? Why don’t you log on and post a glitter comment on a teenage girl’s profile, just for old time’s sake? Back when they were kings of the Internet, MySpace forgot to snag their YouTube name. This paved the way for the ascension of Facebook.

ComedyCentral2
5. Comedy Central
The joke is on you Comedy Central, and also you, reader, who just read that terrible joke. Comedy Central hasn’t uploaded anything, but they have watched 133 videos, probably illegal “Chappelle’s Show” clips.

Yahoo

4. Yahoo
Not even Yahoo cares about Yahoo anymore. Maybe if they had googled YouTube, they would have claimed their channel name.

MTV
3. MTV
MTV used to be a brand strongly identified with the cutting edge of popular culture, but now they mostly function as a Heidi Montag delivery service. First, they stopped showing videos, and now they’ve stopped claiming their name on popular video sites. It’s a damn shame.

twitter3

2. Twitter
The fastest growing social site for witless narcissists is all the rage in the media right now, but they aren’t going to mention this YouTube page, because that really wouldn’t make much sense in a story about an unrelated website.

Nickleodeon

1. Nickelodeon
If you’re looking for “iCarly” clips, you’ll have to go elsewhere. If you’re looking for a commercial for a Slipknot concert from 2005, this is the place.
